1966-ban alakult angol zenekar. Eredeti fel�ll�s: Syd Barrett �nek, git�r;                             Roger Waters basszusgit�r;                             Rick Wright billenty�s�k;                             Nick Mason dob.

     1965-ben h�rom volt cambridge-i di�k egy�ttest alap�tott Sigma 6 n�ven. A h�rom lelkes ifj� Roger Waters, Rick Wright, Nick Mason �p�t�szeti tanulm�nyokat folytatott Londonban a regent Street Polytechnicben. Nemsok�ra nevet v�ltoztattak, �gy lettek �k a T-Set. K�s�bb csatlakozott az egy�tteshez Julietta Gale �s Bob Close, valamint Roger Syd Barrett. Gale �s Close t�voz�sa ut�n Barrett k�t h�res blues zen�sz - Pink Anderson �s Floyd Counci - nev�b�l k�lcs�n�zve - az � zen�j�kre eml�kezve nevezte el a band�t Pink Floydnak Szerzem�nyeik megkompon�l�s�ban nagy szerep jutott Barrett k�b�t�szeres tapasztalatainak �s Waters �rz�kenys�g�nek. Koncertjeik, el�ad�saik alkalm�val nemcsak zen�ltek, vet�tettek is, f�leg sz�nes di�kat. A hangulat a k�b�t�szerez�s �lm�nyeit id�zte, �s gyakran al�fest� zene volt ez a tudatt�g�t� muzsika. Els� nagyobb fell�p�s�ket a Countdown Clubban tartott�k - �t �s f�l �r�n kereszt�l. Itt m�r a technikai viszonyokhoz k�pest �ri�si volt a hanger�. A zenekar m�sik kedvelt klubja az UFO volt, ahol a pszichidelikus zene rajong�i gy�ltek �ssze. Els� lemez�k 1967-ben jelent meg, bor�t�j�n a n�gy zen�sz elmos�dott k�pe, a h�toldalon pedig Barrett rajza volt l�that�. Sajnos a t�m�nytelen k�b�t�szerez�s lehetetlenn� tette Barrett sz�m�ra a tov�bbi zen�l�st, ez�rt 68-ban megv�ltak t�le. Hely�re bar�tja, David J. Gilmour ker�lt. Az egy�ttes �rdekl�d�s�t a film adta lehet�s�gek is felkeltett�k �s a 60-as �vek v�g�t�l p�r �vig folyamatosan h�doltak ennek a szenved�ly�knek. Az � zen�j�kkel �lvezheti a n�z�k�z�ns�g az al�bbi filmeket: More, Zabriskie Point, La Vall�e, Criptal Voyager. M�g 1969-ben jelent meg a dupla Ummagumma, amely lez�r�sa korai korszakuknak. A kett�s album els� fele, a koncertr�szletek a r�gi zen�t id�zik, a m�sodik r�sz elgondol�sai zeneileg el�re mutatnak. Az �jabb korszak nyit�nya az Atom Heart Mother. Ebben a hossz�, t�bbt�teles sz�mban a rockzene olyan hangeffektus-sk�l�j�t produk�lta az egy�ttes, amelyet azel�tt m�g senki nem �rt el, �s azut�n sem sokan. A komolyzenei elemeken �s szerkeszt�sen k�v�l, a n�i k�rus haszn�lat�n kereszt�l, az ipari zaj elemein �t eg�szen a bluesalapokra �p�l� rockig minden �rt�kes zenei forma el�fordult benne. A k�vetkez� �vben k�t lemez�k jelent meg. A Relics a r�gi sikerekb�l �s a m�g meg nem jelent sz�mokb�l �ssze�ll�tott v�logat�s. A Meddle pedig egy �jabb remekm�. Ez�ttal a lemez m�sodik oldal�t foglalja el egyetlen sz�m, az Echoes. M�g ebben az �vben elmentek Pompei-be, ahol a f�st�lg� Vez�v l�b�n�l l�v� k�l�nleges hangulatot �raszt� r�mai kori k�rsz�nh�zban koncerteztek k�z�ns�g n�lk�l. A j� akusztik�j� amfite�trumban �j zenei hat�st pr�b�ltak ki - a t�k�letes quadroph�ni�t. Ezut�n az �j�t�s ut�n, amit az Azimuth Coordinator tett lehet�v�, a Floyd quadrophon koncertet adott, �s lemezeinek is jelentek meg quadrophon v�ltozatai. A nevezetes pompei kocertet film is meg�r�k�tette. Ezut�n j�tt az 1973-as �v, a rock egyik legjobb �ve. Ekkor k�sz�ltek a rock klasszikusainak legjobb m�vei, ekkor k�sz�lt el az a Pink Floyd lemez, amelynek c�me "The Dark Side Of The Moon" - A Hold s�t�t oldala. Az album mind a st�di�technika, mind a zenei kifejez�s �s megform�l�s vil�gcs�csa. A lemezt 10 sz�m alkotja amelyek azonban �sszef�ggenek egym�ssal, �s �gy folyamatosan 44 perc muzsik�t hallhatunk. Az album 27 �ve szerepel a Bilboard 200-as list�j�n, m�gpedig a legjobbak k�z�tt. T�bb mint 38 milli� p�ld�nyt adtak el bel�le. Az egy�ttes nem felejtette el a r�gi git�rost, Syd Barrettet. Az � �letvitele, �rz�sei, hallucin�ci�i ihlett�k a Brain Damage c�m� sz�mot:

Ebben az id�ben a sikerek ellen�re m�r probl�m�k is jelentkeztek a PF k�z�ss�g�ben. Bizonyos fesz�lts�g volt �rezhet� a tagok k�z�tt. A t�lhajszolts�got kipihenve k�sz�tett�k el k�vetkez�, Wish You Were Here c�m� LP-j�ket, amely bizonyos vonatkoz�sban m�g az el�z�t is fel�lm�lta. A k�vetkez� lemezig nyugodt pihen�s �s a turn�k sora v�ltotta egym�st. K�t �v ut�n megjelenik az Animals. A sz�vegek igen �rdekesek, a k�z�ns�g sz�m�ra t�ls�gosan elvontak. Az �jabb lemezre ism�t k�t �vet kellett v�rni. 1979-ben egy majdnem teljesen Waters szerzem�ny l�tott napvil�got, a The Wall - A Fal. A lemez az els� pillanatt�l kezd�d�en kirobban� siker. Alan Parker rendez�s�ben film is k�sz�lt bel�le, amely h�ven fejezi ki Waters gondolatait, �rz�seit, v�lem�ny�t a XX. sz�zadi vil�gr�l. Gondolatilag �s zeneileg is egys�ges, dramatikusan fel�p�tett m�, mely sokban m�r a rock oper�kra eml�keztet: The Trial, Another Brick In The Wall. A sz�npadi show, a turn�k, s a f�raszt� munka egyre jobban elcsig�zta a tagokat, akik k�z�tt az egyet�rt�s hi�nya kezdett �jb�l megjelenni. Sok�ig nem k�sz�lt el semmi. A folyamatos �rl�d�s oda vezetett, hogy a 80-as �vek elej�n kiv�lt az egy�ttesb�l a billenty�s Wright. 1982-83-ban k�sz�lt el a Final Cut, amely teljes eg�sz�ben Waters alkot�s. A zene, a sz�veg, �nek �s a t�ma apja hal�l�nak eml�ke. Az album magas sz�nvonal�, egys�ges alkot�s de sok olyan r�sz van benne amely a Falra eml�keztet. A lemez elk�sz�lte ut�n a marad�k tagok v�gk�pp �sszevesztek. 1986-ig a Pink Floyd tetszhalott volt. nem t�rt�net semmi. A tagok sz�l�ban pr�b�lkoztak, viszonylag kev�s sikerrel. A Pink Floyd n�v haszn�lata kapcs�n b�r�s�gi t�rgyal�s lett. Az eredm�ny: a Fal �s el�ad�si joga, valamint a lemezelad�sok 30%-a Waterst illeti meg, a Pink Floyd n�v pedig David Gilmour �s Nick Mason tulajdona lett. 1986-ban Gilmour h�v�s�ra a sz�l�karriert pr�b�lgat� Wright visszat�rt, �s �gy - 20 vend�gmuzsikussal k�z�sen vett�k fel a Momentary Lapse Of Reason c�m� lemez�ket, majd egym�s ut�n k�tszer vil�gk�r�li turn�ra mentek. Felszabadultak Waters elnyom�sa al�l, de elvesztett�k a legterm�kenyebb szerz�t, aki az els� id�kben mindegyik�kre j� hat�ssal volt. Tipikus se vele, se n�lk�le eset �llt el�, ami azonban nem zavarta a Pink Floyd legenda tov�bb�l�s�t �s a tov�bbi koncerteket, illetve lemezeket.
